On the 11th, Porto was once again awarded Best City Destinationthe World in 2022, thus winning another title after having been elected Best City Destination in Europea.
This prize, awarded at the World Travel Awards (WTA) realized in Muscat, Oman is the equivalent of the "Oscars" of tourism.
Invicta competed with cities from all continents, outperforming London, Lyon, the African cities of Nairobi, Cape Town, Marrakechof the American continent, Las Vegas, Miami and New York, Acapulco, Cancún and Mazatlán; Bogotá e Quito South America, and further east, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, Hanoi (Vietnam), Hong Kong (China), Australia's Melbourne and Sydney; as well as New Zealand's Queenstown and the city of Lisbon.
This election was the result of a worldwide online vote that ended on October 20th. In the words of the Porto municipality, this distinction is "the highest global recognition in travel and tourism in the Best City Destination in the World category, a unique distinction in the industry". The award was received by Councillor Catarina Santos Cunha, responsible for Tourism and Internationalization accompanied by president of the Porto Tourism Association, Luís Pedro Martins.
In a ceremony marked by the distinctions awarded to Portugal, the city of Lisbon was awarded World's Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination 2022, Madeira (World's Leading Island Destination 2022), the Paiva Walkways (World's Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction 2022), Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua, TAP Air Portugal (with two awards for its flights to Africa and South America), Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel, Dunas Douradas Beach Club, Pestana Palace Lisboa and Dark Sky Alqueva.
